PhD Project (in progress): Hydromagmatic fragmentation processes – the compounding influences of magmatic volatiles and external water on eruption dynamics
This project aims to constrain the influence of magmatic volatiles and external water on fragmentation processes and explosivity, using eruptions of Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai in 2021-2022, and of Taranaki during the Last Glacial Maximum as case studies. Current methods include textural analysis of SEM images and 3D X-ray tomography data, and will be supplemented by study of geochemistry, thermal history, and viscosity. More info coming soon!
