home.
Well, the world is strange. I’ve been home in Calgary, AB, for a couple months now. It’s the most time I’ve spent here, and with my family, in a very long time. My last time living here was in 2014…….
I’m in the middle of writing my masters thesis, on a volcano in the Caribbean (yes, I went there last year for field work, and the rum was v tasty). I’m waiting for things to settle down before I head back to Munich to do my experiments, and wrap up my three year long German chapter.
While I’m writing my background chapter and coding figures in Matlab, from the comfort of home, I’m also spending a lot of time making and listening to music. I’ve been re-accustoming my fingers and brain to classical and contemporary piano, and writing accompaniments to some current favourite covers. I recorded a cover of m’Lover by Kishi Bashi as a birthday gift for my human, who is in NZ now, 12 000 km too far away.
I’ve been warming back up to playing originals on guitar and have compiled a list of songs I want to record together for my first full length album. I’ve got a lovely little home setup going over here and want to take advantage of it while I can! I’m aiming for something a little less acoustic than Floating… and am hoping to get some friends involved too.
Maybe I’ll even start playing some little outdoor and online shows soon…
Let’s keep looking out for each other. Hope you are well.
With love,
Mila
